Thai Practice July 2018

These days I practice my Thai writing by copying full sentences. I use a Microsoft Surface that I can draw on which makes this very easy. I also have a few sample chapters from Glossika with lots of sentences. These examples are nice because they have the tone maps for the sounds and an English transliteration.

Thai Practice January 2018

I practiced writing Thai consonants in the beginning by tracing the shapes in different colors. For me, this was a good way to learn the new hand motions needed to write Thai letters. I read and copy whole sentences now instead of tracing letters, but this was great in the first days.

Dance

This playlist stays around and accumulates pop music. I originally started it to keep track of songs my partner liked because I couldn't shuffle my tunes without immediate complaints. But the songs have grown on me, I like pop music, and there's lots of awesome musicianship buried in these songs. I can picture the session musicians absolutely crushing and making these songs come to life. They way not stand the test of time, but these songs capture some of the spirit of the times...as popular songs always do.

Tracks from Thailand July 2018

I flew to Thailand in July 2018 via San Diego and Tokyo, then Hong Kong and LA. I visited Chiang Rai, the Golden Triangle, and spent a day in Myanmar and Laos. I saw snake whiskey made with cobras and scorpions, Chinese ships sailing up the Mekong with containers of who-knows-what, and coffee growing on steep slopes in the clouds of Burma. These were some tunes that played as I traveled.

Midsummer means sweltering heat in the desert and sideways escape to much of the same in Thailand. Rural Isan proves cooler, and I rest and enjoy the passing days.
