Hawaii: The Big Island

The island of Hawaii is young and rough, diverse, strange, and beautiful. I realized some of this the first time I visited - mostly the beauty, not so much the weirdness. It was an intoxicating trip, so much so that I bought a one way ticket back a few years later. I remember the chill vibe in Kona, the clear water and snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay, South Point feeling like the edge of the world, the lushness and energy in Volcano National Park, hiking out to the active flow under the stars, the rainforests and waterfalls around Hilo, cowboys in Kohala, Waipio Valley, and the drive back down the coast. I have stories for another time about my return trip when I stayed for almost a year. To be continued...
